The Mass Bay Youth Lacrosse League (MBYLL) - the Boys side of our league, board of directors today announced the cancellation of Week 1 of MBYLL season (April 3-5) for both Classic and Select play due to the Coronavirus outbreak. Week 2 of Select play (April 10-11) will be rescheduled for later in the season. At this time, the MBYLL season will be scheduled to start on the weekend of May 8th for both Select and Classic league play. The board will continue to monitor the situation and take any necessary actions based on the latest facts and recommendations from local, state and national health and government agencies.
The MBYLL Board is asking all member town programs to follow local and state government mandates and guidelines regarding gatherings and the use of public space and fields in their towns. The board is strongly advising its member town programs TO CANCEL ALL in-person lacrosse activities through the end of March and reassess at that time based on information and guidelines at that time. This includes indoor and outdoor practices, team meetings, and any in-person gatherings.
What does this mean for Pentucket Lacrosse and our Select programs?
We will be canceling all practices until May 4, 2020.
What can you do to stay active and keep up your lacrosse skills?
Our board and coaching staff are busy preparing youtube videos of Wall Ball routines and workout routines that you can do at home or alone on a wall somewhere. Watch for them in daily emails, IG and FB posts and subscribe to our YouTube channel Here.
We know it #sucks, and we all want to be out there playing lacrosse, so hang in there, wash your hands, stay away from your friends (as hard as that is), and have some fun with the challenges we post each day. We have TEN $50 Dick's Sporting Good Gift Certificates to give away to contest winners, so stay tuned.
Update as of 3/12/2020:
On a day when we’re hearing of college and high school classes being suspended indefinitely and sports seasons following suit, players and their parents are slowly starting to wonder what will happen this season. We’ve been doing this ourselves for a few days now, but admittedly more today than any that have come before, due to the recent developments. We are aware of the current and developing situations and we wanted to assure you that we have the health and safety of our players, families, and coaches on top of our minds.
This is what we have discussed as a league:
Should Mass Bay or US Lacrosse tell us we need to cancel the season, we will follow suit.
Should the Pentucket Regional School District and surrounding districts cancel classes and sports seasons, we will discuss the decision among our board members and leave the decision up to parents to do what they think is best for their families.
For now, we will continue with our indoor practices at Phanzone and The Bagnall School gym until we hear otherwise. Coaches will try to have hand sanitizer available during and after practice, and please know that both locations have bathrooms with hot water where your kids can wash their hands before coming home if you would like.
We have implemented a few changes to our indoor practices:
• We will not be doing any warm-ups that involve touching the floors, turf or the walls.
• Send your kids with lots of water to drink during practice because- NO sharing water bottles!
We promise to keep you informed as we hear of anything that may impact practices or the general season. If you do not want your child practicing because they or someone in their family has a compromised immune system, please let your coaches know you will not be attending practice. We will not hold non-attendance against anyone.
For now, we plan to carry on, wash our hands really well, and drink plenty of water : )
Hopefully, this will blow over before the season starts, but we wanted you to know we are monitoring the events.
